Status of Residence for Foreign Athletes

Regarding the status of residence of foreign athletes who are active in Japan, it is roughly determined whether the foreigner is a professional athlete or an amateur athlete.
The status of residence for professional athletes is “Entertainer” and the status of residence for amateur athletes is “Designated Activities”.
Participating in a sporting match under a contract with a company, etc. that engages in sporting events as a business falls under professional sports.
On the other hand, if you belong to a club team of a company whose business is not a sports match, and participate in a match that is not for the purpose of entertainment, it falls under "Designated Activities".
In addition, if an athlete comes to Japan to participate in a sports event without prizes or rewards held in Japan, the status of residence will be "Temporary Visitor".
